Green Travel Plans for Schools: Encouraging Active Mobility from a Young Age

Two school initiatives held in Luqa (25 March 2026) and Paola (27 March 2026) formed part of each school’s submitted Green Travel Plan, promoting active and sustainable mobility.

Overview

Transport Malta is continuing to promote sustainable travel habits from a young age through the Green Travel Plans for Schools initiative—supporting school communities to adopt healthier, more active, and more environmentally responsible ways of travelling.

Two school initiatives were held as part of the Green Travel Plans submitted by participating schools:

  • St. Ignatius College – Father Indri Schembri Primary School (Ħal Luqa) on 25 March 2026
  • San Ġorġ Preca College – Ġużeppe Aġius Primary School (Paola) on 27 March 2026

Both schools have submitted a Green Travel Plan, and these initiatives formed part of the actions identified within their respective plans. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students were encouraged to explore active mobility—including cycling—and to reflect on everyday travel choices that reduce dependence on private car use while strengthening connection with their environment and community.

These sessions were delivered in collaboration with Nature Trust and FEE Malta, and Transport Malta remains committed to supporting schools in turning Green Travel Plans into real, practical action—empowering students, educators, and families to make sustainable mobility part of daily life.
